The Moon Wheel is a kinetic sculpture that can be set to show the phase of the moon on every day of the month up to 2080.
-First use the outer dial labeled 2020 – 2080 to select the year.
-Then with the year set, find the section on the inner dial labeled ‘Year of the Decade’ that corresponds to the last number in the year. For instance 2023 would use section labeled 3, 2024 would use section labeled 4.
-To select the month refer to the diagram in the center, position one of the white lines perfectly within the selected month’s window. The wheel only requires a turn of a fraction of a degree month to month to center the line in the next months window and this scale allows for that accuracy.
-Make sure the correct year and month are selected at the same time and the main dial labeled 1 – 31 will show the phase of the moon for every day of that month. In months with less than 31 days including leap years the remainders can be ignored.
While fairly accurate this is a kinetic sculpture intended to be enjoyed visually and show the cycle over time, not intended for navigating open water as I can only guarantee accuracy within a day or two.
This is my own original concept and design and to the best of my knowledge there is nothing else like it.
There is a place on the back to hang it on the wall or it also comes with a table top stand.
Made of maple plywood finished with shellac, very sturdy, meant to be handled and used for at least 60 years and fully engraved so the writing and indications will never wear away.
It is 18 inches tall when in the table stand and the diameter is 16 inches.
Feel free to get in touch about custom engravings to make it more personalized gift or any other special requests.
